Statement of Intent

When creating my posters, I will make sure I take into account the rules and regulations surrounding print advertising set out to me by the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority). In order to do this, I will make sure I include no drug or alcohol use or misuse, no nudity, no public indecencies, gambling or violence in any shape or form. My content will be family friendly and be specifically aimed at the target audience set out for us; 16–25-year-olds. Despite my target audience being at an age group that may be exposed or have seen any of the pervious mentioned, I understand that these are Bus Stop Billboard Posters that will be seen by the General Public whether they are the target audience or not, and I must ensure I do not breach Public Decency Standards.

In order to keep a positive representation of society, I have decided on making two of my posters feature people on them in order to represent two different groups of people in society. The chosen groups are Women and young children, as my goal was to get more young women into sport without feeling suppressed by men, especially with the upcoming women’s sports such as the Women’s Football Super League and the young children aspect was because I wanted to show how young children will grow up and fill the shoes of their parents or even older siblings, in this case showing love for sports. Some people around the 16–25-year-old category, especially in the latter half of this age group will have children and may intend to want them to have the option to watch sports. I have presented the women as intelligent and headstrong in their profession whilst the children will be energetic and active.

In my posters, I will use a vibrant red and yellow background across all of them in order to attract attention to my posters and associate. I will use the same logo across my posters, so my channel becomes noticeable and recognizable. My layouts will always have the main image in the centre, with as much minimal text as possible surrounding the image. My main theme across the posters, of course will be the fact that the channel is free, and I will convey this across all four posters, mentioning the fact it costs nothing at least once on each poster, and I will often do this with either putting the lack of price in bold writing or a different colour font. I will include taglines across all four posters and aim to make them as creative and engaging as possible. In addition, all four of the posters will include the channel that it will be on based on the TV Service, here it is SKY, Virgin Media and NOW TV. The font will be easy to read and bright, so it is memorable. I will mainly be using Gauntlet’s Identity Theory, in order to relate to the target audience who, have an interest in sports in order for them to come and watch the channel. I will ensure I don’t give into Tunstall’s Gender Theory in order to not sexualise, domesticate, show women as consumers or relying on their partner for everything as this would be a negative representation, and I aim to positively represent women. The Uses and Gratifications theory also comes into play due to the fact the posters are educating, informing, entertaining and getting the audience to engage with the poster.
