History of Sports Channels

 

History of Sports Channels:

-         First Sport televised on May 17^th, 1939. A Baseball game on Baker Field was carried out by the National Broadcasting Company.

1  19th October 1946, First live televised football match- Barnet V Wealdstone FC; picture became too dark and couldn't broadcast whole match. 

-         The first Sports Channel was the SportsChannel Network, first launched in 1977.

-         ScreenSport launches in 1984 as the UK’s first Sport’s TV Channel. Initially all sports are pre-recorded.

-         31 August is the first live event- Greyhound Racing

-         17 September 1985; broadcasting of the Freight Rover Trophy for the two lower divisions of football. (Now known as Papa John’s Trophy)
